Companies that embrace good corporate governance are known to instill greater investor confidence. At this year’s seminar, held jointly by Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA), Singapore Exchange (SGX) and Singapore Institute of Directors (SID), the theme is “Rebooting Corporate Governance”.

Highlights:

  • Find out about SID initiatives to help ACs prepare for new accounting standards and convergence to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

With increasing complexity in business transactions, investors are placing greater reliance on the financial statements. The AC’s role in ensuring the integrity of financial statements and the transparency of corporate disclosures becomes even more crucial. In this session, ACRA will share areas of focus that ACs should pay attention to when reviewing the 2017 financial statements. ACRA will also share observations from its EAR study and how ACs can leverage on AC commentary to raise transparency of the corporate disclosures.

0940 – ACs’ Response to Recent Developments in Financial Reporting

ACs are facing increasing challenges in the light of the EAR, new major accounting standards and the convergence of Singapore Financial Reporting Standards to IFRS. How should ACs respond to these developments? Where can they get help? This update examines these issues and how the SID AC Chapter plans to help ACs respond to these challenges more effectively.

 0950 – SGX RegCo 2018 Regulatory Updates

With market participants paying greater attention to the corporate governance practices of listed companies, it is important for listed companies to strengthen corporate governance practices that better support sustained corporate performance and maintain investors’ confidence in our capital market. Expanding the coverage of reporting to include environmental and social aspects of businesses will further enhance disclosure and transparency to investors. This session provides key highlights on sustainability reporting and the changes arising from the proposed revision to the CG Code. SGX RegCo will also share case studies on corporate actions to provide clarity on listing rules.

1015 – Panel: Insights on the 2017 Review of the CG Code

To strengthen investors’ confidence in the capital markets, the Monetary Authority of Singapore had set up a Corporate Governance Council in February 2017 to undertake a review of the CG Code, which is applicable to all listed companies in Singapore. In this session, the three subcommittee chairmen from the Council will share key highlights of the proposed revisions and insights on ACs’ role with regards to corporate governance.
